How to give back while moving this Christmas

season of giving

As the festive season approaches, we’d love to share the gift of giving and so we have put together a few ways that you can get involved and give back to the community and yourself while moving interstate or overseas this Christmas.

1. Give through donations

It’s a challenging time for many communities and never more than as we head into the festive season. Before you pack your clothes and household items into moving boxes, it is always a good idea to de-clutter and decide on what you really want to take with you to your new home.

This is beneficial not only to you, as you will have less stuff to unpack, but also beneficial to the community. Drop off your good quality clothes and household items to your local charity shops, such as Vinnies, to donate to someone in need.

2. Give back to the environment

It has always been important to give back to the environment and this Christmas season is no exception. We suggest using recyclable materials while packing to ensure your environmental impact is as minimal as possible. The best ways to reduce your footprint while moving are to; use recyclable boxes, use minimal bubble wrap and instead use newspapers, cloths and towels to cover delicate items instead of plastic.

3. Give your family a chance to prepare

One of the best gifts you can give to a loved one is peace of mind. As soon as you decide to make the move to a new place, whether it be to a new country or simply down the road, it is best to tell your family and friends as soon as possible. This includes not only the people that are moving with you like your kids, but also relatives and close friends so they can prepare for the relocation as well. This will give them all a chance to prepare and hence, overall peace of mind.

4. Give your kids a moving gift

No matter what their age, there is nothing a child loves more than to rip open a gift, especially an unexpected one! This idea can be done at any time of year but is especially relevant in the Christmas period. Keep one of your kid’s Christmas gifts aside and gift it to them on the moving day. This will keep their spirits high and associate the move with excitement. If your trip is especially long, either by car or plane, a great gift idea is something that they can use during the trip. This could be a toy, game or headphones. This will make the overall trip more enjoyable for the kids and less stressful for you!

5. Give yourself a break!

The best gift you can give yourself this Christmas is a break. However, it can be hard to find the time and the means to do so. However, it’s the small things that can take a load off while moving to a new house – like hiring a removalist to do all the hard work for you!

At Crown Relocations, we specialise in relocating and we would love to help you and your family make the move this holiday season. Not only will a load be taken off your shoulders physically, but also mentally as we prepare, organise and fit everything into your new home exactly how you would like it.
